Cause Categories
Impact Foundation uses the following Cause categories to describe a Portfolio Company’s primary purpose or mission. Many organizations have multiple ways they impact their communities and the world; however, selecting one from the list below is beneficial for tracking impact metrics.
Education: improving access to, the quality of, and equity within educational systems.
Environmental Stewardship: focused on the responsible use and protection of the natural environment through conservation, sustainable practices, and renewable energy solutions.
Evangelism/Discipleship: sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and helping believers grow spiritually.
Freedom—Addiction Recovery: helping individuals overcome substance use disorders, behavioral addictions (e.g., gambling, pornography), and co-occurring mental health conditions.
Freedom—Ending Human Trafficking: preventing, identifying, and responding to all forms of human trafficking—including forced labor, sex trafficking, and exploitation of vulnerable populations.
Generosity: encouraging and facilitating giving, grant-making, and other forms of philanthropy.
Good Health & Well-Being: ensuring individuals and communities achieve physical, mental, and social health throughout all stages of life.
Healthcare: focused on healthcare access, disease prevention, mental health, and maternal and child health.
Humanitarian Aid: focused on providing immediate and sustained relief to people affected by crises, such as natural disasters, armed conflicts, forced displacement, food insecurity, and public health emergencies.
Orphan & Widow Care: focused on meeting the needs of some of the most vulnerable members of society, emphasizing protection, provision, and empowerment for individuals who are at risk of exploitation, poverty, and social isolation.
Poverty Alleviation: focused on long-term strategies to reduce the economic and social conditions that keep individuals and communities in poverty, seeking to empower people to achieve economic self-sufficiency and dignity.
Redemptive Methodology: an enterprise whose primary impact happens through the way business is conducted—intentionally participating in God’s transformational work in the lives of employees, vendors, and customers, while creating sustainable value.
