Helping Students Realize Their Potential Through Access & Opportunity
A Portfolio Company update: Melsoft Academy
Melsoft Academy is bridging the tech skills gap in South Africa, equipping learners with world-class training, practical career pathways, and the skills to compete in the global digital economy.
ACCESS AS THE MISSION
Opportunity, or lack-there-of, is often a matter of access, rather than ability. Melsoft Academy was built on this simple but urgent observation: African talent was being left out of the global digital economy, not for lack of ability, but for lack of access.
Melsoft Academy, the Johannesburg-based global tech ecosystem, equips learners with the skills to build production-ready portfolios, earn industry-recognized certifications and develop the professional confidence to build careers that transform their families and communities.
At the heart of Melsoft’s work is a deeply held conviction: Every person carries God-given potential, and education should be the pathway to unlocking it. That belief shapes everything from how students are recruited to how they are mentored and prepared for the workforce.
A MODEL BUILT FOR RESULTS
Melsoft’s programs are QCTO-accredited at NQF Level 4–5 and cover Software Development, Data Science, AI, Cybersecurity, and more, all delivered online and on-site. What sets Melsoft apart, aside from the skills they teach, is how they go about equipping their students. Melsoft students complete rigorous pre-screening before ever entering the program. They receive personal mentorship and career support, including CV preparation and technical interview coaching. This intentional approach ensures that every qualified candidate is given the support and know-how to develop their skills and create problem-solving real-world products. Melsoft Graduates are doing more than just earning certificates, they arrive at their first job ready to contribute, championing the belief that operating with excellence is an act of worship.
The results speak for themselves:
92% of program completers were placed with employers, 47 graduates stepping into roles across financial services, health research, automotive, SaaS, and creative industries at companies including ABSA, Altron Karabina, and the Wits VIDA Research Unit
Those 47 graduates collectively generated R6.77 million (~$367,000 USD) in annual income
Approximately 80% became the first in their families to earn a professional salary in the technology sector
Program completion rates tripled year-over-year, jumping from 18% to 54%
Melsoft was named EdTech Startup of the Year 2024 and ranked the #2 Tech School in South Africa by the Nasi Ispani Awards, earning a 4.9-star average rating across more than 200 student reviews
“Spaces like these don’t just teach code; they shape confidence, discipline, and belief. Grateful for the foundation, the support, and the reminder that growth really is possible when opportunity meets effort.”
Mbali Puso, Developer, Melsoft Academy Graduate
A LOOK AHEAD
Melsoft’s vision extends well beyond South Africa. With plans to grow from 94 enrolled students to 200+ per cohort and expand into AI and Cybersecurity programs, the academy is building toward a pan-African tech talent pipeline. The data is clear, whenever students complete the program, they land jobs. Melsoft Academy is a testament to the ideal that when faith, excellence, and access come together, the potential is extraordinary.
